In my current position, I work as part of the PROBabLE Futures team, developing a framework for the responsible use of probabilistic AI systems in law enforcement. My responsibilities include participating in policy engagements with stakeholders within the criminal justice system on responsible use of AI, conducting regulatory analysis of AI-enabled technologies, and supporting the development of practical regulatory frameworks intended to shape UK government policy on AI in law enforcement.
In this role, I co-led and developed the Foundations of Tech Policy - Australia's first dedicated tech policy professional development course. I also convened high-level roundtables with global technology leaders, and organised policy engagements in 3 countries in the Indo-Pacific region which culminated in an influential report on the future of undersea cables in the region.
This role entailed preparing and conducting seminars and tutorial sessions for undergraduate students in various subjects, including Torts Law, Corporate Law, Business Law, and Enterprise Law. I facilitated and guided class discussions, mark assignments, essays, and examinations, and provided academic advice to students during consultation times. Additionally, I conducted research on course content and curated relevant reading materials for assignments. I attended faculty meetings, conferences, and seminars to remain up-to-date with developments and best practices in academia.
In this role, I was responsible for overseeing the work of student volunteering at the Clinic, providing feedback on their research output, and ensuring the effective running of the Clinic. I conducted research on topics related to internet law, regulation, satellite communications, and human rights to internet access, and produce periodic information guides, fact sheets, white papers, and research papers from a cross-border perspective.
In this role, I regularly developed governmental policies and provided legal advice on their implementation. This included coordinating policy formulation and review, evaluating policy options, and providing expert advice to government officials and industry players on policy, program, and legislative issues. Additionally, I regularly prepared submissions to the National Assembly (the legislative arm of government) in response to requests for information on existing and proposed governmental policies. I also represented the Nigerian Communications Commission in negotiations, as well as at seminars and forums convened to discuss policy issues.
In my previous position, I was responsible for drafting different legal documents, including contracts, policies, position papers, guidelines, letters, and memoranda on industry trends. Additionally, I regularly made presentations to the team on these topics. Furthermore, I coordinated the preparation of my Unit's annual action plan, developing activity charts and responsibility matrices in line with the approved plan. This involved working closely with other members of the team to ensure that all goals and objectives were clearly defined and achievable.
This role entailed conducting extensive research on the development of various governmental policies and providing valuable insights to support decision-making. I also carried out corporate secretarial duties to support the activities of several standing and ad-hoc committees. Additionally, I organized training sessions for staff members from other departments on policy and compliance issues, as well as workshops for judicial officers. This helped to promote awareness and understanding of key policy issues and compliance requirements. As a result of my hard work and dedication, I was honored to receive the Best Staff award for two consecutive years, recognizing my contributions to the organization's success.
I was responsible for drafting and reviewing various legal documents for clients. Additionally, I regularly researched and advised clients on diverse legal and regulatory issues, ensuring that they were well-informed and equipped to make sound decisions. Also, I maintained accurate filing and recordkeeping, regularly attended client meetings, and participated in mediation and negotiations on behalf of clients. This helped to ensure that clients' interests were represented effectively and that their legal needs were met in a timely and professional manner.
My previous role involved conducting due diligence on new partners and projects, drafting weekly project summaries and letters, updating the organization's CRM system, making feedback calls to development partners, and conducting legal research on topics such as intellectual property, anti-bribery law, and data protection.
During my internship, I participated in a range of training programs, which provided me with a deep understanding of the investigations procedure, the CRM system, the complaint handling process, the legal framework (code of practice and guidance), as well as the PRS industry and its technologies. In addition to these trainings, I also attended tribunal hearings and contributed to the drafting of a tribunal judgement.
As part of my role, I conducted litigation proceedings in both the Magistrate Court and High Court, played a key role in the due diligence process for the takeover of an insurance company, advised an advertising firm on compliance issues for a proposed media campaign for Visa Nigeria, represented clients in arbitration proceedings, and provided corporate secretarial services for clients.
